    Default back up system

Hi there, I have a question:

I have a number of servers with fdc. Due to hard drive failures i am loosing my files, so i need some kind of a back up system.

so i was thinking of getting another server with FDC and use that for back up only.

What i would like is this "back up server" to be connected to all my other servers . so i can back up my files manually. for example a network drive would be good, i can easily transfer the files by copy paste to the network drive from the C:/ .

Can FDC do this for me? so this one back up server is some how linked to my other servers. i dont want to transfer the files using the available bandwidth i want to setup a private network so i get full 100mbit. when i transfer between the servers.

They are all windows 2003 standard servers.

Doesent fdc still offer local VPS's (internal only)... it was in the client area. simply purchase the one time harddrive upgrade and pay the monthly price. Send backups to that as often as you want... no worries about bandwidth useage!

I personally prefer an off-site backup --- it's just added security in case something happens to your server. There are many providers that offer backup services for the $15-20 / month price.

I cant go with external back up. its too many files and hosting accounts.

I need around 2.5-3 TB back up.

VPS's (internal only) <-- so how does this work, are you able to explain me further ?

FDC use to offer internal vds's (for internal network use only). These would be IDEAL for backup purposes as you can backup files as often as you want without having to worry about using your bandwidth up. Just purchase a one time hard drive upgrade (or grab a few vds's). These would also be great for off loading apps like MySQL! You will have to send an inquiry to FDC about this as I dont know if this service is still offered.

Another option would be to colocate a server and request a crossconnect between each server and transfer data over the wire that way! Just get yourself a few mips for some internet conectivity to more easily manage your server ;-)

Again I dont know if FDC still offers such services but they have always been very helpful!

I suspect you need a product like R1Soft ( http://www.r1soft.com/ ) which is capable of handling a large number of files with frequent delta points. With such a product, it makes even 2-3TB of *remote* data backup possible.

I mailed into managed services at FDC.. i hope they can advice me on the best solution, lets see.

And thanks for all you guys advice. But i think its too advance for me. So best solution would be to get someone to do it like the managed services at FDC i hope.

Simply get a FDC's NAS storage box...

With the backup you need also some technical support.
